Max Whitlock – agony as career ends
Champion Max Whitlock’s gymnastics career ended with a reminder of how cruel short can be.
Whitlock was eying on last dance with gold in Olympic Games swan song – “most motivated I’ve been”. But ti didn’t end in his favour.
At Paris 2024 the gymnast took to the pommel horse at an Olympic Games for the final time.
Max missed out on an Olympic medal in agonising fashion as the Team GB star’s illustrious career came to a close.
Whitlock was aiming to become the first man to win three consecutive gold medals on the pommel horse having topped the podium at the 2016 and 2020 Games in Rio and Tokyo.
It wasn’t to be for the three-time world champion though who failed to top the early score set by Norman Kurbanov from Kazakhstan. The six-time Olympic medalist finished the pommel horse final in fourth, missing out on bronze by 0.100 points.
What did you think of his performance? Should he have got a medal? Let us know.
