Post Office IT Inquiry – Tory leader gives evidence
Watch live as Kemi Badenoch appears before the Post Office Horizon IT inquiry on Monday, 11 November.
New Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch, who was business secretary in the last government, is giving evidence to the Post Office inquiry – watch live.
Badenoch blames the so-called “government machine” for slowing the financial redress scheme for sub-postmasters – but rejects suggestions she should have escalated her concern sooner
The former business secretary and her successor, Labour’s Jonathan Reynolds questioned on problems related to compensation for victims of the scandal.
Reynolds highlighted the need for cultural change in the Post Office and to “make sure the system works for sub-postmasters”
Later the inquiry hears from Paul Patterson, the boss of Fujitsu’s European arm.
It comes after the government announced that £1.8bn set aside for people affected by the Horizon IT scandal.
Between 1999 and 2015, hundreds were wrongly prosecuted after the faulty Horizon IT accounting system made it look like money was missing.
