Steve Coogan as Jimmy Savile on tightrope – admits took time before accepting role
Star of the controversial Jimmy Savile BBC drama Steve Coogan describes the role as like ‘walking on a tightrope’.
In an interview with Victoria Derbyshire, Coogan says he ‘thought long and hard’ before playing Savile.
An abuse survivor, Sam Brown, defended the drama and admits its not comfortable to see.
Coogan plays the sex abuser Jimmy Savile in the four part series The Reckoning starting BBC One Monday 9 October.
It is a factual drama which examines the crimes of Jimmy Savile. In the early 1960s, Savile became famous as a DJ in the dance halls of Leeds and Manchester. Able to exploit his position.
