Suella Braverman: are UN refugee rules fit for modern age

Home Secretary, Suella Braverman addressed a think tank in Washington DC,.  The home secretary described the United Nations as an “incredible achievement of its age”.

The Home Secretary warned that as many as 780 million people will be eligible to claim asylum without radical reform of global refugee rules.

Braverman also argued that shifts in interpretation lead to increased numbers defined as refugees.

Suella Braverman: “simply being gay, or a woman” should not by itself be enough to qualify for protection under international refugee laws.

The US and UK face increased challenges over migration, policing, and counterterrorism.  Should both nations cooperate to ensure safety, security, rule of law, and common values?

Home Secretary held a conversation with AEI’s (American Enterprise Institute) Yuval Levin on US-UK security cooperation, global migration challenges, and the importance of transatlantic law enforcement.
