Rishi Sunak NHS more doctors more nurses – LIVE – historic changes
PM: can trust this government with the NHS.
The new plan includes £2.4b in NHS funding.
Government plans to train more NHS staff domestically. Also to halve number of medics being recruited from overseas.
2,000 people to be trained through medical degree apprenticeships by 2031/32
Training, retention and reform is the plan for the future.
During Downing Street press conference Rishi Sunak announced that medical degrees shortened and thousands more university places for medical students. This part of the major plan to boost the NHS workforce in England.
The plan delayed for more than a year and called “historic” by NHS leaders.
But Health Secretary Steve Barclay admitted patients would not see some of the benefits for several years.
Critics say poor working conditions in the NHS could undermine the plan.
The NHS has been beset by strikes this year, and the dispute with doctors is still continuing.
