PMQs Rishi Sunak tackled over peerages – he says process was followed
One of the first questions the Prime Minister had to deal with was peerages.
The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer thought it a golden opportunity to get Rishi Sunak to address the subject.
Sir Keir Starmer: all across the country people are worried about prices and mortgages. So why has the Tory party spent the week arguing about which of them gets a peerage?
Rishi Sunak – says he followed the resignation process to the letter. PMs on both sides of the Commons have done this
Starmer – the PM did sign off the honours list. That means those who threw a Downing Street party the night before the late Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral will get an award. Why did the PM not block that?
Sunak – I followed precedent. His predecessors may not have approved of honours for Tom Watson and Shami Chakrabarti. As a knight, Starmer should know that.
