Scotland: sorry for forced adoptions – apology to thousands of women
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has made a deeply emotional and unreserved apology to thousands of women. This because they were forced to give up their babies for adoption over a period of three decades calling it the stuff of nightmares.
Until the 1970s forced adoption was relatively common in Scotland. Thousands of children taken from their mother who were mostly young and not married. The women were often left in the dark about what was happening to their babies.
Mothers thought it would never happen in their lifetime. They are relieved.
