Nadim Zahawi sacked after tax row – watch Gove ‘explain’

Nadhim Zahawi sacked as chairman of Conservative Party over “serious breach” of ministerial code.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said “it is clear that there has been a serious breach of the Ministerial Code”.  He had ordered an investigation after it emerged Zahawi paid a penalty to HMRC while he was chancellor, over previously unpaid tax.

In an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg Michael Gove – Levelling-up Secretary said “it is important to make sure all facts are investigated fully and properly”.

Gove added Sunak received the conclusion of that investigation this morning and “Immediately on receipt of the letter decided Nadhim could no longer stay in the cabinet”.
