Dark day for British policing – Home Secretary

Home Secretary Suella Braverman made statement to House of Commons about “police conduct in the light of the David Carrick” case.

Suella Braverman described Carrick crime’s as appalling and paid tribute to the victims.  She said ‘It’s imperative this cannot happen again”.

Braverman told MPs the victims were “manipulated and isolated and subjected to horrific abuse”.  ‘It is vital that the Met Police and other forces double down on their efforts to root out corrupt officers.”

The Home Secretary said the case would now also be considered in the inquiry, chaired by Dame Elish Angiolini KC, which was set up to look into the abduction, rape and murder of Sarah Everard by Wayne Couzens.

Labour accuses Tories of a “lack of leadership on police standards for years”.

In the meantime, David Carrick has ben sacked by the Metropolitan Police Force.

He had admitted to dozens of rap and sexual offences against 12 women over two decades.
