Scotland first to approve gender change – watch the vote 

Scotland is the first part of the UK to approve a self-identification system for people who want to change their gender legally.

The Scottish Parliament backed the controversial proposals by 86 to 39 in the final vote.

There were shouts of “shame on you” from protestors in the public galley against trans and LGBTQ+ as the result was announced.

The UK government already said it has “concerns” about the legislation and could seek to prevent it given Royal Assent.
