Energy Saving Tips – how to cut energy and heating costs in your home

Need help saving money on your energy bills? From heating to eating, BBC consumer affairs correspondent Colletta Smith has picked out some of the best ways to cut costs in your home.

The cost of gas and electricity goes up on 1 October 2022 and the price will be fixed for the next two years. Savings mentioned in this video are based on these unit costs and energy usage in a typical home, according to Utilita.

Households are being advised to take energy meter readings before prices rise on 1 October.

On 1 October, the annual energy bill for a typical household will rise from £1,971 to £2,500 – a 27% increase.

Submitting accurate meter readings means providers won’t accidentally charge you at the higher rate for your earlier energy use.

Energy UK, representing suppliers, said most firms will accept readings for a few days either side of 1 October.
