King Charles III addresses the World for first time

King Charles III addressed the nation from Buckingham Palace at 6PM after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.  His speech was recorded at Buckingham Palace a little earlier and was broadcast on BBC One and ITV at 18:00.

A service of prayer and reflection at St Paul’s Cathedral in London is also under way.

King Charles III, who became the new monarch immediately.

The queen had been suffering from what Buckingham Palace has called “episodic mobility problems” since the end of last year.  She was Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign and the world’s oldest monarch.  She was 96.

People left flowers and personal tributes outside palaces and churches as the UK marks the death of Queen Elizabeth II
