The criminal court was filmed by cameras for the first time in England and Wales.  This a major change in the law allowing broadcasters to film judges sentencing serious criminals.

Judge Sarah Munro QC made legal history on Thursday as she passed sentence on Ben Oliver for the manslaughter of his grandfather.

Broadcasting of entire trials will remain off limits, unlike in the US and some other nations.

The first broadcast is from the Old Bailey and concerns a man who killed his own grandfather.

It will open up some of the most high-profile courts and allow the public to see and hear judges explain the reasoning behind their sentences.
