Eurovision 2022 Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – winners – watch the new video!

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra share a powerful new video for Eurovision winning song “Stefania”.

The video features footage from Ukrainian cities bombed during ongoing Russian invasion

On the final night Kalush Orchestra won Eurovision 2022.  Congratulations!  They are great performers and won the hearts of the world.  The group was overjoyed with the win but wanted those watching to know their country was the most important to them.

Kalush Orchestra are a superb rap group competing in this year’s Eurovision song contest in Turin Italy.  They say: “this is the highest responsibility possible”.  They are representing their country during a time of war.

The circumstances in Ukraine meant they couldn’t rehearse their song “Stefania” as much as they liked.  But the group need not have worried. The rappers gave an excellent performance in the semi-finals.

Kalush Orchestra

The rap group formed in 2019. They replaced Ukraine’s original entrant Alina Pash who withdrew from the competition in February.

Group consists of rapper Oleh Psiuk, multi-instrumentalist Ihor Didenchuk.  Dancer Vlad Kurochka, sopila player Vitalii Duzhyk and vocalists Tymofii Muzychuk and Oleksandr Slobodianyk.

The track is performed in the group’s native Ukrainian and was written in honour of member Oleh’s mother Stefania.

Oleh says the band’s idiosyncratic sound combines old forgotten folklore. He says the band’s plans after the contest would involve returning home ‘instantly’ in order to “deal with their own affairs as volunteers and doing everything possible to help their country”.

They are required to return to Ukraine as men of legal fighting age after the competition.  Is it right they do this?  Will you be voting for them?  Do you want them to win?  Tell us your thoughts?  Do you like their music?  Could they become international stars?

What do you think?  Do you like the song?  Did you enjoy the performance?  Are you a Eurovision fan?  Do you watch the show every year?  What do you think of the bands going through to the finals?
