Charles takes Queens place at opening of parliament
Prince Charles read the Queen’s Speech on her behalf for the first time ever. This after the 96-year-old monarch pulled out due to mobility problems.
Prince Charles began with: my government will level up opportunity in all parts of the country and support more people into work.
Will bring forward an Energy Bill to deliver the transition to cheaper, cleaner, and more secure energy.
Immigration and crime: My ministers will take action to prevent dangerous and illegal Channel crossings and tackle the criminal gangs who profit from facilitating them.
In the speech Charles said the government’s priority ‘is to grow and strengthen the economy and help ease the cost of living for families.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge opened Parliament, after the Queen granted special permission.
Buckingham Palace announced late on Monday that despite hoping to attend, “episodic mobility issues” were keeping the 96-year-old monarch from her duties.
It is the first time since 1963 that the Queen will not deliver the speech.
