PM Ukraine invasion: cannot and will not look away

Boris Johnson addressed the country in a televised statement.  He told the nation “we cannot and will not just look away”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson: Russia’s invasion is a ‘catastrophe for our continent’.

He chaired an emergency Cobra meeting earlier.

PM: I will also speak to fellow G7 leaders and I am calling for an urgent meeting of all NATO leaders as soon as possible.

The Russian president authorised the “special military operation” in a surprise televised speech early this morning.  It came after amassing about 190,000 soldiers on the border.

Mr Putin has insisted he does not plan to occupy Ukraine, but Ukraine has branded it a “full-scale invasion”.
