Assange: Supreme Court denies extradition challenge – watch the victory following Law Courts decision in January
A Supreme Court ruling said the Wikileaks founder failed to raise “an arguable point of law”. The decision is a major blow to his hopes to avoid extradition.
In January the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange won the right to ask the Supreme Court to block his extradition to the US.
The High Court ruled he had an arguable point of law that Supreme Court justices may want to consider.
The ruling meant Assange could petition the UK’s highest court for hearing, stalling any extradition from the UK for now.
He is wanted in the US over the publication of thousands of classified documents in 2010 and 2011.
Stella Moris, Julian Assange’s fiancee and mother of his two young sons, claimed the High Court ruling as a victory. But said ‘we are far from achieving justice in this case’.
