Melbourne as Djokovic faces deportation – ahead of Australian Open

Novak Djokovic scheduled to attend a hearing on Saturday.  This two days before the tennis tournament begins. He’s also due to be interviewed by Australian immigration officials.

On Friday, Djokovic’s Australian visa revoked for a second time. This time, Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used his ministerial discretion to cancel Djokovic’s visa.  This on the grounds of “health and good order.”

It means the 20-time Grand Slam champion could be deported and get a three-year visa ban.

His legal team appealing the decision.  How will they do?  Can they convince the Australian government that Djokovic deserves to stay and play?

Andy Murray has described Novak Djokovic’s visa saga as “not great for tennis, not great for the Australian Open, not great for Novak”.

“It just seems like it’s dragged on for quite a long time now,” said five-time Melbourne finalist Murray.

“I’m not going to sit here and start kicking Novak whilst he’s down,” Murray said after his semi-final victory in the Sydney Tennis Classic.

What are your thoughts on the issue?  Has Australia handle this well or not?  Has there been too much fuss?
