Judges deliberating US appeal on Assange extradition – it could take weeks

After two days of hearing evidence at the High Court in London the judges have retired to deliberate their verdict.  The US appealed against a previous decision not to extradite Julian Assange from the UK.

Speaking outside the court, Wikileaks editor in chief, Kristinn Hrafnsson, said he was not sure when judgement given.  He thought it could take weeks. Kristinn believes that Assange should be allowed to walk the streets a free man.  He didn’t believe that Julian was a high risk.

A large crowd of supporters were outside the High Court demonstrating and calling for Julian Assange to be freed.  Many of them have followed the case from the beginning.  At one stage they blocked the road to traffic.

In January, Judge Vanessa Baraister ruled Assange should not be extradited, saying there’s a great risk that he will commit suicide in US prison.

WikiLeaks founder, Assange faces criminal charges for publishing classified information. He was arrested by British police on 11 April 2019.  Julian then took refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy for nearly seven years, where he was granted asylum. He was forced to leave and arrested by the British authorities.

Are you a supporter of Assange?  Do you think he should remain in UK?  Should he be extradited to the United States?  Should he be in prison?
