Tokyo 2020: covid cases in arena as IOC and Japan meet – Japan under state of emergency

IOC President met with Japanese Prime Minister to discuss preparations for Tokyo 2020. The meeting was nine days ahead to the Opening Ceremony on 23rd July. 

Earlier it was reported there was a covid-19 cluster at a Japanese hotel where the Brazilian Olympic team are staying.  The 31-strong delegation, including judo athletes, are in a bubble and separated from other guests and not been infected.  

During his meeting with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, the IOC’s Thomas Bach expressed his “respect and gratitude” to the government and the people of Japan for hosting the Games.
