Boris Johnson – road map extended to July 19 – England to wait another four weeks

Boris Johnson announced  that the road map easing earmarked for June 21 to be delayed by four weeks to July 19.  It means most remaining curbs on social contact continue beyond June 21.  This was when they were due to be lifted.

He said the extension will give time for more people to be vaccinated given the sharp rise in new cases of the Delta variant.

He was accompanied by England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty and the Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.

The limit on wedding guest numbers will be removed but venues will still have to adhere to other rules.

The announcement means limits on numbers for sports events, pubs and cinemas likely to remain in place.   Nightclubs will stay closed and people encouraged to keep up social distancing and working from home.
