Tokyo 2020: no entry into Japan for overseas spectators – protection from covid-19

Olympic fans living outside Japan will not be able to enter the country to attend the events. Japanese Olympic officials told the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees spectators from overseas won’t be allowed into Japan for the Tokyo 2020. The decision was made because of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
The IOC and IPC expressed disappointment but recognised the need for a safe and healthy Olympic Games.
Tokyo 2020 meant to take place last year but because of of the pandemic it was delayed until 2021. Olympic officials going ahead with the Games but because of the risk of covid-19 a decision was made to close Japans borders for the event.
The dates for Tokyo 2020 are: Friday, 23 Jul 2021 – Sunday, 8 Aug 2021
Plan is to offer or share broadcast options so that fans can watch their favourite athletes competing. Not quite the same but a safer and healthier option.
