Hancock: things are moving in the right direction.  Still need to play our part and follow the rules. 40% of the entire adult population in the UK has been vaccinated.

Hancock: Covid-19 case numbers, hospital admissions and number of deaths are falling.

Hancock: Confirms a sixth person in the UK who tested positive for a Brazilian coronavirus variant has been found. Do not believe there was onward transmission.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock updated the nation on England’s latest coronavirus situation.

Dr Susan Hopkins, Public Health England Adviser: after 5-day hunt the unidentified person who tested positive for the Brazilian variant found in Croydon.

It comes amid news that the main union for nurses has set up an £35 million industrial action fund to strike if necessary over the Government’s 1 percent pay rise for health workers.
