Marcus Ashford – Commons – child food poverty – started a petition calling for change
Marcus Rashford MBE addressed the House of Commons petitions committee about his free school meals campaign. The Manchester United footballer has been campaigning on the issue of child food poverty since the start of the pandemic. He has achieved two of his original demands – the provision of meals and activities to low-income families during school holidays. Also the expansion of the healthy start voucher scheme.
Rashford also called for a full-scale review of the free school meals system. ‘It seems like we have taken steps forward but in my mind we’ve got a million miles still to go,’ he said.
