Nicola Sturgeon urges Margaret Ferrier to stand down – but cannot sack her

The First Minister has described Margaret Ferrier‘s actions as “reckless, dangerous and indefensible”.  She should do the right thing and step down after she broke Covid self-isolation rules.

Nicola Sturgeon admitted she was a friend of Ms Ferrier and had spoken to her about the situation. She urged her to do the right thing and resign.

Ms Ferrier travelled on a train from London to Glasgow after testing positive for the virus. The MP, who has apologised, has been suspended from the SNP and she has contacted police.

Under party regulations an MP cannot be sacked by the party leader.
