PM announces second Covid shutdown – 12:30 Live House of Commons

Boris Johnson announces national Covid-19 restrictions. It includes early pub closing and return to working from home.  The PM set to reverse the freedoms of recent months.

The Prime Minister to order all hospitality venues in England to close by 10pm from this Thursday.  This after the coronavirus alert status raised to the second-highest level for the first time since June.

Boris: we’re asking office workers who can work from home to do so. We should assume unless there is progress that the restrictions go on for 6 months.

Plans for fans to return to watching live events from 1 October will not go ahead.  Military will help police with enforcement laws.  Masks must be worn in taxis, staff and customers must wear masks in shops
