Lloyd Webber urges government for date to open theatres

The composer and theatre producer Andrew Lloyd Webber said the pandemic has caused damage to theatre and the wider arts world.  This means they’ve now reached a point of no return.

He made the appeal while giving evidence to a Select Committee in the House of Commons.  Lloyd Webber urged MPs to save the industry and name a date for productions to get under way again.

Lord Lloyd Webber was given a grilling by the politicians but he argued it was not for his own shows but a much broader area of theatre across the nation.  Particularly, he said, in economic values in cities where you have theatres that are dark and city centres that are ghost towns.

Lloyd Webber made the argument virtually.
