Obesity Levels Soar – greater risk with coronavirus – #obese #fat

Latest: Obesity increases risks from Covid-19.  Public Health England found excess weight put people at greater risk of needing hospital admission or intensive care.  This comes ahead of an expected government announcement of new measures to curb obesity.

Over weight problems been around for a while.

UK is on track to have the highest obesity levels in Europe by 2025. And one-fifth of adults worldwide will be obese by the same date research has found.

The data is part of a major study, led by Imperial College London and published in The Lancet April 1, 2016 . They compared body mass index (BMI) among 20 million adult men and women from 1975 to 2014. They found obesity in men has tripled and more than doubled in women. Lead author Professor Majid Ezzat said it was an “epidemic of severe obesity”.

Britain’s obesity epidemic is said to be costing the NHS more than £6 billion a year. Full report can be read online for free www.thelancet.com
