Health Secretary Matt Hancock delivers the daily briefing from Down Street.  He opened by introducing the Test and Trace system.

Everyone in the UK who is symptomatic no matter whether their age is now eligible to a Covid-19 test. 

Hancock: People’s civic duty to isolate themselves if they are contacted by NHS contact-trace from 9am 28 May. NHS test and trace will allow govt to replace lockdown with more targeted action

Baroness Dido Harding, Chair, Test and Trace programme: We want people to feel safe.

Johnathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer: High level of testing in the UK. Small portion tested twice. There’s a decline in confirmed cases. Hospital data = Admission down and continuing decline. Ventilator beds clear and sustained downward trend. Continued downward trend with people in hospital. Death from positive tests 412 there is a continued and downward scope
