PM sets out plan to lift UK lockdown to MPs – 50-page document debated
The Prime Minister sets out the government’s plan to lift the coronavirus lockdown across the UK in Parliament. A 50-page document released earlier in the afternoon shedding light on how lockdown will be lifted. It comes amid confusion over the Prime Minister’s advice to return to work.
Some details from the 50 page document:
Face covering adviced: worn in enclosed spaces where social distancing is not always possible. Drive to outdoor spaces, irrespective of distance / Limited social gatherings, with one other person outside – 2 metres apart / Return to work, food producers and research labs / Primary schools, open for a month before summer / Cultural and sporting events, behind closed doors for broadcast / Hairdressers and cinemas, earliest reopening date 4 July. Fines for breaking the lockdown going up from £60 to £100.
PM: road map for lifting lockdown will enable country to ‘control’ the virus if people continue to follow the rules. Any divergence across the UK on lockdown measures should only be short-term. If alert level begins to rise we will have no hesitation in putting on the brakes.
Sir Keir Starmer: The country needs clarity and reassurance and both are in pretty short supply.
