Boris coronavirus news update 11 May – 50-page document published – vital to take baby stages in next stage

Stats: 210 new Covid related deaths in all settings total now 32,065

It comes after Boris Johnson’s call for Britain’s workforce to return to their jobs on Monday morning. Reaction shows it has descended into chaos and confusion. PRIME MINISTER will lead and give the latest on deaths and infections with covid-19.

Boris Johnson, Prime Minister:

Country now in a position to begin moving to level three in steps down from level four of new alert system.  Staying alert for the vast majority of people still means staying at home as much as possible. Go to park to exercise on your own, go with members of own household.  One on one thing but keeping social distancing.  Got to maintain social distancing on public transport so people should think about alternative ways to go to work.  We have helped to bring the R level down and we are now in a position to begin moving to level 3, in steps. One on one has to be with member of household. The over 70s should take care but not shielded.  Must still protect them. Take care but not right to say they are shielded.

Scotland: who do people listen to? Right different devolving nations take different routes because of their covid circumstances. But Cobra meet where all attend there should be a nationwide solution. Make sense to have a regional national response but also make sense to have national response.

No checks in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Look at social distancing measure and apply them with common sense.

Scientific Medical

Prof Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England: Very confident we will find a solution to this but it will take time.  One good thing about virus is that the risk factor for children is very very low. If return to school needs to be done very carefully.  Can do many things to reduce the risks.

Sir Patrick Vallance, UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser: Important measurements stays in place. Very encouraging efforts on a vaccine in the UK and across the globe.  We could start giving the recovery rate in the future.

Followed by questions from the public and national media

Sir Keir Starmer, Labour Leader says: I remain committed to working constructively with the government in the national interest.

Oh by the way catch the new notice!
