Govt Covid-19 update 5 May – cyber attacks

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab hosts today’s Covid-19 briefing.  It comes as government experts have been advised to lift the lockdown “very gradually” to avoid risking a rise in infection rate and losing public trust.

Dominic Raab: Will need to adjust to a new normal. Make sure next stage are comfortable more sustainable. Must continue to be guided by the science. there will be some who will exploit malicious and other groups employing covid scams. Sophisticated experts targeting the virus and we are taking steps necessary to stop it.

Cyber Security centre has published a joint warning about these groups. The are designed to steal bulk data it is predatory procedures and could continue but government will be pursuing them and criminal gangs. Working with international partners to deter gangs. We’re determined to defeat coronavirus and the scams.  We won’t get verdict on how well countries have handled pandemic until it is over. Culture Secretary working on plans to play sport behind closed doors. Professional sport behind closed in the long term? A vaccine would be good and how tests tracking tracing works. Prof Angela McLean, Deputy Chief Scientific Advisor, Ministry of Defence: Transport gradual small increase in motor vehicles. Rail and Tube down by over 95%. Transport is down by at least 55%. New cases: 4,406 on May 5. Over the last week the number of people with covid-19 fallen from 15.408 to 13,208 a decrease of 14%. Critical care beds decreasing for most of the UK.

Recorded deathsUK: an additional 693 deaths of people who had tested positive cor coronavirus and is falling and falling steadily since middl of April. There is a real issue in Care Homes and we need to get to grips with it. Korea good example for contact tracing. Diets: better to do something that is enduring and not be obese.
