VE Day 70 – Remembering – Coronavirus has meant no parties to celebrate 75 years
#veday #commemoration #victory
Thousands remembered VE Day – the end of World War Two in Europe. On the 8th May seventy years ago Winston Churchill declared Germany had surrendered.
It didn’t take long for the word to spread and people were out on the streets celebrating. Huge crowds gathered in Trafalgar Square and it was in that euphoric atmosphere that Winston Churchill made a broadcast telling them “This is your victory!”
For the 70th commemorations thousands of street parties, church services and concerts were organised. Ynuk.tv found some people who had rejoiced in Trafalgar Square 8th May1945
A shame the 75th anniversary couldn’t be celebrated in the same way.
