Scotland: Face masks recommended – by First Minister

Nicola Sturgeon has announced new guidance that the Scottish public should wear face masks in enclosed spaces. This is where social distancing is difficult to achieve, for example while shopping or using public transport.  But she said it was “not a substitute” for existing lockdown restrictions.

Ms Sturgeon stressed that the advice related to cloth garments such as a scarf rather than “medical grade facemasks” like those used by health and care workers.
