Gatherings of more than two people are banned, shops ordered to close and social events stopped.  These among new rules to keep Britons and home and stop the spread of the coronavirus.  Also, police will be given powers to enforce restrictions, including by fines

Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the UK and made announcement on covid-19. It comes as cases of coronavirus in the UK rapidly rise.

New curbs on movement include shopping only for basic goods and a ban on gatherings. The tough new restrictions for the country will be in place for at least three weeks from this evening.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock and other officials criticise Britons who aren’t adhering to recommendations on social distancing.
