Boris Johnson’s Brexit Deal DONE. All is in the balance for Boris

Latest: EU Commission President not likely need to grant UK Brexit an extension.  In the meantime in the House of Commons MPs debate the future of Trade.

A Brexit deal has been agreed between UK and EU negotiating teams before a meeting of European leaders in Brussels.

The two sides have been working on the legal text of a deal, but it will still need the approval of both the UK and European parliaments.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “We’ve got a great new deal that takes back control.”

Boris Johnson was dealt a Brexit blow ahead of crunch talks with Brussels after the DUP refused to back his deal. Leader Arlene Foster told the PM that she “cannot support” his compromise proposals on customs.  This is despite an agreement being “fingertip close” last night.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, the DUP’s leader and deputy said discussions with the government were “ongoing”, but “as things stand, we could not support what is being suggested on customs and consent issues and there is a lack of clarity on VAT”.
