Met Police Pioneer Forensic Technology On the Beat. Watch the programme to see how finger printing is made easy. Reporter, producer Alex Iszatt

This is technology at its best.  The Metropolitan Police has taken a giant step forward toward making their job on the beat a whole lot easier.

New Biometric technology allows police on the street to run full fingerprints and background checks on the people they arrest.  It is done without having to bring them into custody suites in police stations.  This could save the Met precious time and money.  They call it ‘ink on the streets’.

The digital method is done within minutes.  Traditional finger printing can take several hours.  This has got to be a good thing.

Reporter Alex Iszatt filmed and produced the video for BBC’s Inside Out London #InsideOutLdn.
