ESA – Launch to International Space Station LIVE. Again. Their mission is on the day Apollo 11 celebrates 50 years since landing on the moon

ESA – Launch to the International Space Station LIVE.  It is looking a little cloudy but launch goes ahead.

This Saturday 20 July at 18:28 CEST (16:28 GMT) three astronauts will be launched to the International Space Station.  ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano, NASA astronaut Drew Morgan and Roscosmos commander Alexander Skvortsov will blast-off from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Live coverage will be divided into three parts. All times are in CEST as follows:

  • Launch 17:30-18:45 20 July.
  • Docking 00:00-01:00 21 July.
  • Hatch opening 02:00-03:00 21 July.

The four-orbit, six-hour journey to the International Space Station in the Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft will be the second spaceflight for Luca, the third for Alexander and the first for Drew.  Luca had a little trouble with his helmet leaking when he was on a space walk in his previous ISS mission.  But all is good he made it inside with few problems.  He is ready for the next journey.

It marks the start of Luca’s Beyond mission and, once the trio has been welcomed aboard by current crew members Alexy Ochivin of Roscosmos and Nick Hague and Christina Koch of NASA, the beginning of Expedition 60.

This is an amazing day for the space industry.  Both the launch and the Apollo 50th will inspire many to either join, invest or just watch.  There are hopes that being in orbit will provide jobs, culture and people living on the moon, mars or wherever for earthlings.
