Royal baby christening. Watch the crowd action outside the Castle during the service. LIVE ended
Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is due to be christened at a ceremony in Windsor Castle. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keeping it a very private affair.
While the details of Church of England christenings are usually publicly available, a special royal rule means this won’t be the case for the Duke and Duchess. Their two-month-old son – who is seventh in line to the throne – will be christened privately. The names of godparents are not being revealed.
It is understood a tiny chapel in the Upper Ward of the Castle is where the christening by the Archbishop of Canterbury will take place.
This won’t stop the crowds from gathering outside Windsor Castle. Each one will be proud to say they were there on the Christening day!
However, the decision by Meghan and Prince Harry’s to keep baby Archie’s godparents private has sparked huge criticism among royal watchers. The world awaits for today’s special ceremony.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Wednesday that the christening at Windsor Castle on Saturday will be private. The identities of the godparents is in keeping with their wishes, will remain private too. The decision has sparked huge controversy, as it came a few days after the royal couple’s home was renovated with £2.4million of taxpayer’s money.
