Everest Rugby Challenge For Children’s Charity

Weekend of 22 September, 27 determined and exhausted charity fundraisers completed their first ever training sessions. It was for the LMAX Exchange Everest Rugby Challenge raising funds for the children’s charity of rugby, Wooden Spoon.

The LMAX Exchange Everest Rugby Challenge takes place across 24 days (13 April 2019 to 6 May 2019).  Challenge will see the group battle acclimatisation, heights of 6,500 metres.  This will be to play the highest game of full contact rugby and the highest game of mixed gender touch rugby in history.  The aim to raise £200,000 for Wooden Spoon.

The challengers met in Ambleside in the Lake District for two full days of hill climbing to test their levels of fitness.  Meet their team mates, find out more about the expedition.  Also to see the huge difference their fundraising will make. Money raised for children and young people across the UK & Ireland with disabilities and facing disadvantage.

The team is led by expedition leader, Carrie Gibson with support from team Captain and England Rugby superstar, Tamara Taylor.  Challengers included men and women ranging from their 20s to 70s. They have various levels of fitness (including a wide range of former rugby injuries). Got stuck in, pushed each other through the difficult times and came through united.  Also ready to take on Mount Everest next year.

David Mercer, CEO of LMAX Exchange Group: Rugby is a game of integrity and teamwork. This spirit drives both Wooden Spoon and LMAX Exchange in what we do. We are proud to support Wooden Spoon and will be enthusiastically cheering the players on, as they work to set world-records and fund life-changing projects for children and young people.
