Commonwealth Games: Doyle Scots’ First Female Flag Bearer. Can’t wait to carry out the honour.  English triathlete Alistair Brownlee and Welsh swimmer Jazz Carlin will carry their countries’ flags at the Commonwealth Games.  The opening ceremony can be viewed live BBC One 10:30 BST

Eilidh Doyle will be Scotland’s first female Commonwealth Games opening ceremony flag bearer and says it will be one of her proudest moments.

Scotland’s most decorated track and field athlete was chosen by her fellow team members to lead the country into the Carrara Stadium on Wednesday.

“This is a highlight of my career,” the 31-year-old told BBC Scotland.

Two-time Olympic champion Brownlee, 29, will lead the 390-strong England team at Wednesday’s ceremony at the Carrara Stadium on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Double Olympic medallist Carlin, 27, heads a Wales team of more than 200 as she competes in her fourth Games.

The opening ceremony takes place mid-morning – 10:30 UK time. Scotland were hosts last time and will be the first team into the arena.  Birmingham will be the next hosts of the Commonwealth Games.  They will be watching how it goes on the Gold Coast. Will you go?

It is going to be one of the best opening ceremonies in this key sporting event.  Lots of sunshine from the Gold Coast of Australia.
