UK is on track to have the highest obesity levels in Europe by 2025.

It is expected one-fifth of adults worldwide will be obese by the same date research has found.  The data part of a major study, led by Imperial College London and published in The Lancet April 1, 2016.

They compared body mass index (BMI) among 20 million adult men and women from 1975 to 2014. They found heavy men tripled and more than doubled in women. Lead author Professor Majid Ezzat said it was an “epidemic of severe obesity”.  He urged governments to act. Britain’s obesity epidemic said to be costing the NHS more than £6 billion a year.

It is said we may end up in a world where a majority of the population are obese, while others continue to go hungry.
