It’s not long before London Live TV broadcasts to the capital. Londoners will be able to switch on their television sets and watch a new TV Channel broadcasting directly to them. The population of the capital is estimated at 9 million.
On Monday 31st March London Live hit the TV screens of the population of London.
The channel, backed by Russian owners of London Evening Standard and Independent, was awarded the licence last year in the Government’s initiative to have local TV broadcasting in regions across the country.
Multicultural and multitalented
The Channel promises fresh talent and programmes that will fill their ‘lively’ 24-hour broadcasts. Five and half-hours will be dedicated to a daily output of news and current affairs. They expect to have neighbourhood journalists offering news with their own cameras on a regular basis
Vikki Cook, head of news and current affairs, has picked a presenter team that she describes as multicultural and multitalented individuals who will give the channel a ‘very distinctive look’. London has a large foreign community with about 300 languages spoken
Where to find channel
London Live will be available on Freeview Channel 8, Sky channel 117 and Virgin Media channel 159.
Unfortunately this franchise did not survive. It had some great ideas and thoughts. But not a winner on air.
Do you watch local TV? Is it good for the community? Should there be more?
