UK Expels Russian Diplomats

UK Expels Russian Diplomats – 23 given one week to leave the country. They need to pack their bags and go.

Theresa May told MPs they had to go. This after Moscow refused to explain how a Russian-made nerve agent was used on a former spy in Salisbury.

PM said the diplomats, who have a week to leave, were identified as undeclared intelligence officers.

She also revoked an invitation to Russia’s foreign minister. Theresa May told the House the Royal Family would not attend the Fifa World Cup in Russia later this year.

Russia denies attempted murder and says it will respond appropriately.

The mass expulsion is the largest since 31 ordered out in 1985. It happened after double agent Oleg Gordievsky defected.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was jeered by Conservative MPs. He asked Mrs May how she had responded to Russia’s request for a sample of the nerve agent so it could run its own tests.

The people of Salisbury remain subdued from the incident.  On March 4 former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and daughter Yulia found slumped on a bench in the heart of Salisbury. It shocked the nation. The two seriously ill in hospital

Det Sgt Nick Bailey fell ill when he responded to the incident.  He is in a serious but stable condition and thought to be improving.

The Russian embassy said the decision was unacceptable, unjustified and short-sighted.

Other measures

Increased checks on private flights, customs and freight
