Winter Paralympics 2018: Owen Pick

Winter Paralympics 2018: Owen Pick – snowboarder to carry GB flag at opening ceremony,  Pyeongchang, South Korea. Games take place: 9-18 March.  Time in Pyeongchang: GMT +9

Owen Pick is relishing his winter games bow as Paralympics GB name their first ever para snowboarding team.  Following the event’s successful debut in Sochi in 2014. He is joining a team determined to break records.

This is Pick’s first Games.  He lost his leg aged 18 while serving with the British Army in Afghanistan.

Pick: After I lost my leg I was in a hospital bed. I saw snowboarding on TV. Never ever new what it was.  Charity called Plesma sent me on a snowboard trip. Never stopped snowboarding really.

A great story.  He will lead out the British team at the 35,000-capacity Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.  It may be cold but the roar of the crowd will hot up the moment.

Owen is one of three snowboarders on the Great Britain team. Good luck guys we know you will do us proud!  Be fearless! It looks a fantastic sport. Stay safe and stay warm. We’ll be watching you!

Up to 670 athletes from 68 nations, including Russians competing under a neutral flag, will walk out into the stadium at the opening ceremony.  It begins at 11:00 GMT.  It will be streamed online if you can’t get to a big TV set
