The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – watch the trailer for a taster of the days on Guernsey Island following World War II.
This is how it goes
The story is set on Guernsey Island in the aftermath of World War II. It sees free-spirited journalist Juliet Ashton form a life-changing bond. It is with the delightful and eccentric Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. She decides to write about the book club the locals formed during wartime.
Juliet had received a letter from a man named Dawsey Adams on the island of Guernsey. It is mainly a farming community, located on one of the islands in the English Channel between France and Britain.
Dawsey is a native who has come across her name inside a book by Charles Lamb. He writes to her because books are so rare on Guernsey, and he would like to gain more — particularly for the island’s book club, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
The screenplay was adapted from the Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows novel, of the same name. It was an international best-seller.
The book sold 7.5 million copies in 37 countries.

…the war is really over. Is it hard being a writer. Well, my first book… How many copies. Twenty eight, worldwide. I am part of a book club. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Founded by Elizabeth McKenna. Our Friday night book club became a refuge to us during the occupation by the Germans.
I’ve seen things that I thought could never happen. I lost people too. If you’d let me I’d like to try and help.
You are not what I expected. How did you imagine me Mr Adams? I suppose it’s possible for us to belong to someone before we’ve met them.
If books do have the power
