Tessa Jowell Gets Standing Ovation After Cancer Speech – her emotional speech left some in tears. Dame Tessa dies at age of 70. Condolences to family and friends. Tributes pouring in from around the world
Ex-MO Tessa Jowell was given a rare standing ovation in the House of Lords. This was after she delivered a speech on cancer care.
Tessa Jowell diagnosed with brain tumour in 2017. She was unaware of any prior symptoms to indicate there was something wrong.
During her speech Baroness Jowell made an appeal for patients to be able to trial treatments. She revealed how less than 2 percent of cancer research funding is spent on brain tumours. No new vital drugs developed in the last 50 years.
She bravely told the story of how she found out about the brain tumour. She was in a taxi which had to take her to hospital.
Quote: In the end, what gives a life meaning is not only how it is lived, but how it draws to a close. I hope that this debate will give hope to other cancer patients, like me, so that we can live well together with cancer. Not just dying of it – all of us for longer
So sad to hear of her loss
