Clipper Race Director Update on Greenings Crew – yacht aground off Cape Peninsula.

The 18-member crew of CV24 Team Greenings had to be rescued Tuesday October 31. The yacht is one of 12 taking part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Rescue was from an offshore reef at Olifantsbospunt between Cape Town and Cape Point.

The Clipper Race Office continues its support for Greenings Interim Skipper, Andy Woodruff, and  crew. This follows the announcement that the yacht (CV24) will take no further part in the Clipper 2017-18 Race.

Clipper Race Director Mark Light praised the team’s response after running aground on the western side of the Cape Peninsula. Also, the incredible work of the emergency services.

The team escaped unharmed in relatively calm conditions. Incident happened not long after the Table Bay start of the third leg of the race.

Sailing experts said the Olifantsbospunt site has claimed several victims over the years.  It is near a treacherous shipwreck hot spot called Albatross Rocks.

In the meantime, six crew members of Greenings to join yacht Hotelplanner.com for Leg 3. The race for Fremantle in Western Australia due to start November 5.
