Art Illustrates Birmingham’s Wholesale Market – the move is welcomed by some but others would rather stay

The city centre origins of Birmingham’s Wholesale Market date back to the 12th Century. But 2018 will mark a major turning point in its history.

Then it will relocate to a site in the Witton area of the city.  This prompted artist Danny Howes, 44, to preserve in painting form the final days of current market life.

He said he wanted to share a world that happened “while everybody’s asleep”.

There are some great stories told by the marketeers. Many have been there for generations. Stalls offer a mix of food and artefacts.

Citizens from various nations lived and worked in the area.  All seem a great big family.

Experience how the artwork is so close to the reality of the market. But a re-generation programme is well under way in Birmingham.

The face of the city centre will change. Let’s hope it is for the better.  Well-loved characters can be viewed in the video. In real life and in artwork form.  Danny’s artwork is on sale. visit at http://www.dannyhowes.com/
