Battle of the Sexes Trailer – watch true story of Billie Jean King campaign for equality.  Arrives in cinemas November 24

Latest news: Battle of the Sexes will be shown at BFI London Film Festival American Express Gala. It’s European premiere October 7.  A special screening with Festival and Premiere highlights will be shown in UK cinemas October 10

Here’s how it goes

The sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement began in 1973. A tennis match between women’s World #1 Billie Jean King and ex-men’s-champ Bobby Riggs was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES.  It became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world.  As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles.

The fiercely private King was struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality as well, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett developed.  And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons.  Together, Billie and Bobby served up a cultural spectacle. Their feud resonated far beyond the tennis court. It sparked discussions in bedrooms and boardrooms that continues to reverberate today.
